The water colour painting functions as a metaphor for consumer’s awareness. The multi-dimensional painting suggests the urgency to wakeup the sleeping giant who can be assumed as a consumer and the other characters seem to be depicted as the giant’s guardians, who are trying to wake him up. The painting has intertextual reference to both the mythical character of Kumbhakarana and Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels (1726), signifying the contemporary avatar of Lemuel Gulliver from Swift’s novel who lands up in the island named as Lilliput. The scene depicted in the painting relocates the contemporary situation in a mythical and literary landscape in order to ignite the viewer’s mind. The intermingling of the the mythical and contemporary characters animates the viewer’s imagination. The painting provides a space to the characters ranging from Tom and Jerry, Mr. Bean to Hanuman. The panoramic view of the painting provides a new insight in the artist’s land of imagination. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
The painting was drawn by the artist Suguresh Sultanpur in 2010.
