I was interested in sports, scientific\u00a0facts, and random headlines that used to catch my attention. My parents always wanted me to\u00a0read English newspapers and the newspapers in my vernacular language, Marathi. I used to wait\u00a0every Thursday for a popular children\u2019s magazine named \u2018Campus\u2019 from \u2018Lokmat Times.\u2019\u00a0 Apart from this, \u2018Indian Express\u2019; \u2018Divya Marathi\u2019; \u2018Sakal\u2019; and \u2018<em>The Times of India<\/em>\u2019 are the\u00a0most prominent newspapers in my home.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, I will put some light on one of the most prominent newspapers of India, \u2018<em>The Times of India<\/em>.\u2019 It is managed by \u2018The Times group.\u2019 It has the third-largest circulation in India\u00a0and is the best-selling English-language daily worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/tanaya-jadhav\/toi\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2115\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2115\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1232\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI.jpg 1232w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI-300x118.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI-768x302.jpg 768w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI-1024x403.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1232px) 100vw, 1232px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe <em>Bombay Times<\/em> and <em>Journal of Commerce<\/em>, which would later become <em>The Times of India<\/em>,\u00a0was first published on November 3, 1838. It began as a bimonthly publication but was changed\u00a0to a daily in 1850. Under the direction of editor Robert Knight, the journal was combined with\u00a0two others to become the <em>Bombay Times<\/em> and <em>Standard<\/em> in 1859.<\/p>\n<p>Pioneering industrialist Ramkrishna Dalmia bought the business from its British owners in 1946\u00a0after it had been combined into the Times of India Group. He founded The Times Group, the\u00a0Dalmia Group, and the Dalmia-Jain group.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/tanaya-jadhav\/toi2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2116\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2116\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1265\" height=\"437\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI2.jpg 1265w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI2-300x104.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI2-768x265.jpg 768w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI2-1024x354.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1265px) 100vw, 1265px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe Times of India Press published numerous significant English and Hindi magazines edited by\u00a0eminent writers like Khushwant Singh and Dharmveer Bharti. Some popular Hindi magazines\u00a0include <em>Dharmyug<\/em> ( 1949-1997), <em>Dinaman<\/em> (1965-1990), and <em>Sarika<\/em>. In the 1990s, most magazines\u00a0were no longer published due to the organization&#8217;s financial crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the incredibly renowned <em>The Times of India<\/em>, the Times group owns many other\u00a0famed <em>The Economic Times<\/em>, <em>Navbharat Times<\/em>, and <em>Maharashtra Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Dalmia Ownership and the \u2018Dalmia-Bennett Coleman &amp; Co. Ltd\u2019 court case:<\/strong><br \/>\nIn 1947, Dalmia transferred funds from a bank and an insurance firm, of which he was the\u00a0Chairman, to facilitate the acquisition of the massive media conglomerate, Bennett &amp; Coleman.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/tanaya-jadhav\/toi3\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2117\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2117\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1121\" height=\"586\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI3.jpg 1121w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI3-300x157.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI3-768x401.jpg 768w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI3-1024x535.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1121px) 100vw, 1121px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The socialist politician Feroze Gandhi, a member of the ruling Congress party led by his\u00a0estranged father-in-law Jawaharlal Nehru, learned about this in 1955. He brought up the issue\u00a0before the Parliament in December 1955, thoroughly outlining the multiple financial transfers\u00a0and mediators used to finance the acquisition. The Vivian Bose Commission of Inquiry looked\u00a0into the matter.<\/p>\n<p>In the subsequent court case, he was convicted to two years in Tihar Jail, where he was\u00a0represented by renowned British lawyer Sir Dingle Mackintosh Foot. But he was able to spend\u00a0most of his sentence in a hospital. After his release, the son-in-law he had given control of<br \/>\nBennett, Coleman &amp; Co. Ltd., Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain, rejected his attempts to take back control\u00a0of the business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Jain Family and the Government of India ownership:<\/strong><br \/>\nShanti Prasad Jain was detained at the beginning of the 1960s on suspicion of dealing newsprint\u00a0on the underground market. The Government of India also filed a petition to limit and oust the\u00a0management of Bennett, Coleman, and Company in light of the Vivian Bose Commission&#8217;s\u00a0previous findings, which revealed wrongdoings of the Dalmia-Jain group and included specific\u00a0accusations against Shanti Prasad Jain.<\/p>\n<p>After the Vivian Bose Commission report revealed serious wrongdoings by the Dalmia-Jain\u00a0group, the Bombay High Court, presided over by Justice J. L. Nain, issued an interim order on\u00a0August 28, 1969, dissolving the current Bennett, Coleman &amp; Co. board and establishing a new<br \/>\nboard that would report to the government.<\/p>\n<p>The bench decided that &#8220;Under these circumstances, it would be preferable to issue such\u00a0directions on the presumption that the petitioners&#8217; assertions that the company&#8217;s operations were\u00a0being managed in a way adverse to the interests of the Company and the national benefit are<br \/>\nfactual.<\/p>\n<p>Sahu Shanti Prasad Jain&#8217;s son &amp; Ramkrishna Dalmia&#8217;s grandson Ashok Kumar Jain received\u00a0possession of the newspaper back from the government around 1976. However, India was still\u00a0under a state of emergency.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The change of medium from print to digital:<\/strong><br \/>\nTimes Online is an Indian internet technology firm with headquarters in Gurgaon. It owns, runs,\u00a0and invests in various goods, services, and technology based on the internet. It is a division of the\u00a0Times Group&#8217;s digital business, India&#8217;s largest media conglomerate.<\/p>\n<p>Over 450 million people visit Times Internet each month, spending more than 13 billion minutes\u00a0using all its goods and services.<\/p>\n<p>In its early years, Times Internet mainly handled digital media, managing the web editions of the\u00a0Sahu Jain family-owned The Times Group. The Times of India, The Economic Times, and the\u00a0Navbharat Times are three prominent print periodicals.<\/p>\n<p>Over time, the Internet changed from a media-led firm to a technology-led company. Times\u00a0evolved into a collection of many digital items that functioned apart.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/tanaya-jadhav\/toi4\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2118\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2118\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1040\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI4.jpg 1040w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI4-300x95.jpg 300w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI4-768x244.jpg 768w, http:\/\/sites.iitgn.ac.in\/digitalstudies\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/TOI4-1024x325.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1040px) 100vw, 1040px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nTimes Internet entered a variety of different industries to varying degrees of success. With India\u00a0Times, it entered the social networking and e-commerce space but needed help to grow the\u00a0company. MagicBricks, an online real estate marketplace established in 2006, and iDiva, a<br \/>\nwomen&#8217;s leisure site launched in 2009, both saw success for the firm.Times Internet undertook a series of acquisitions, including the majority interest purchases of\u00a0MensXP in 2012, CricBuzz, Coupondunia, and Dineout in 2014, Taskbucks in 2015, and &#8220;The\u00a0Viral Shots&#8221; and WillowTV in 2016. Additionally, it formed a strategic partnership with the\u00a0chatbot service Haptik in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, the business introduced TLabs, a startup accelerator, via which it invested in\u00a0up-and-coming digital firms, including Delhivery, Pratilipi, etc.\u00a0Times Internet developed Colombia, a full-stack AI-powered ad-tech network that brought all of\u00a0its digital goods together on a single platform as its portfolio continued to expand.<\/p>\n<p>Based on customer interests and demands, it moved and monetized people through this platform\u00a0through able to drive and monetize people through this platform throughout its numerous digital\u00a0sites.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I started reading newspapers when I was in 4th standard.
