Bon Voyage

Theme: Dams and water resources

States and Union territories covered: 11

Our aim was to study the historical values, the mechanism, maintenance and current status of the dams across India. Also to understand the economic and natural changes the dam has brought upon the surroundings and take note of the changes it has made on the lives of the people living nearby- the risk, favor, pros, and cons. So to explore, we went to Idukki, Cheruthoni, Pykara, Aliyar, Deras, Umiam, Tehri and Bhadra Dam. These Dams were mainly constructed for water storage for agricultural and hydroelectric power generation, so they affect people daily living too. Moreover, these dams are facing some issues like sedimentation, soil erosion and pollution. Along with Dam exploration, we also went to nearby architectural specimens, lakes and waterfalls, where we were exposed to India’s real beauty. We also tasted different delicious dishes of various states. Through this journey, we gained lots of knowledge regarding Dam construction, their impact on nearby lives and impact on countries growth. We were really stunned by the diversity and nature’s beauty of India. Overall, we enjoyed and learned a lot from this exploration.
