Pretentious Wanderers

We are Pretentious Wanderers and we went across the country in 47 days during the Summer of 2018 studying the “Historical Influences to Cultures through street art and food.” Ever since we heard about this program when we first came into this institute, we all have been pretty psyched and exhilarated about it. We sort of started planning and anticipating the trip from that moment itself.

We wanted to use this trip in order to broaden our understanding of our own country and learn about the different cultures present in different parts of it. We wanted to go about this using the native food of these places as well their street. Mainly because all of us are big foodies and street art has always been something that has never failed to capture out attention. This country’s very rich and fascinating history manifests itself into its people’s mindsets, their food and dressing habits, their festivities and traditions and their day to day functioning. This is what we hoped to achieve through this trip, besides of course enjoying to the fullest and having the time of our lives.

It is definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity and we believe that each person should be able to experience such a thing at least once in their lives. The memories we made on the road are priceless and timeless. Additionally, we get to learn a lot during the journey and get a new zest and vigour towards life in general. We travelled to the biggest cities of the country like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata; and the most remote and untouched areas like Cherrapunjee, Alleppey, Dimapur; we had the best cuisines of our lives such as the Punjabi food of Chandigarh, street food of Delhi, French delicacies of Pondicherry, sweets of Kolkata; and the list goes on and on. This has been one of the most enriching and fulfilling experiences of our lives and we would like to sincerely thank IIT Gandhinagar to have given us this wonderful opportunity.
