When Being Busy Became Being Lost

After the mid-sem break, Hayden returned to campus feeling refreshed. The break had given him something he hadn’t felt in a while and that is time for himself. During break he played sports, picked up old hobbies, and felt a bit lighter. Back on campus, Hayden wanted to hold on to that refreshed feeling. In his excitement, he began saying yes to more opportunities and within a week, he had signed up for multiple sports events, and his days quickly started filling up with: Morning PE classes, Back-to-back academic lectures, Pending lab reports, Preparation for quizzes and assignments, Participation in student elections and late-night hangouts with friends just to not feel left out.

At first, it felt like he was making the most of college life but within a few weeks, something shifted. Instead of feeling active, Hayden started feeling rushed. Instead of choosing things as per his plan for the day, he was chasing the clock. Deadlines overlapped, Sleep & breakfast got compromised, Tasks piled up and in between all of these his focus dropped, concentration lapsed, memory became foggy and self confidence took a 180 degree turn. For him, what once felt like enthusiasm slowly turned into poor time management.

Hayden’s story reflected that he wasn’t doing less, he was simply doing too much, without direction. And slowly, that lack of direction began to cost him his focus, energy, and peace of mind.
