When Steve Buckner joined his dream institute, he arrived with excitement, ambition, and a quiet promise to himself that “I will make the most of these years.” But within weeks of his life in the institute, he became the student who said “YES” to everything. “Yes” to club activities. “Yes” to extra projects. “Yes” to things which put his sleep in the “negotiable category”. “Yes” to late-night discussions. “Yes” to late night stay at lab/workspace “Yes” to unnecessary eateries just to get fit in.
And all those “YES” for what ?- I just wanted to belong! To be visible! To matter! As a consequence.. slowly, without realizing, Steve Buckner became a chasing person, that means he is simply moving from one activity to another, collecting unnecessary responsibilities and silently losing energy. Over the period of time, what has started as acute stress slowly became chronic exhaustion. His concentration dipped, Memory felt foggy, Friendships became shallow, Emotionally, he felt stuck. Ultimately in a campus of thousands, he felt strangely alone....
