When we walked the streets of Madgaon at 2am in the morning, we were scared that we wouldn’t make it back safe and sound. The streets were isolated. We faced over 100 dogs on the way and had to reroute every time we thought a street wasn’t safe. We were also questioned by a police officer on the way who thought we were upto no good. After we safely made it back to our destination 2 hours later, we were elated. We just had one of the most terrific experiences of our lives. Our experience was everything we had imagined it would be and much more. It was enthralling, exciting and enriching. At times, it was also frustrating and tiring. We had exquisite food everywhere we went. We never compromised on food even though it meant that we had to sleep on the streets once and in the waiting rooms of different railway stations thrice. We had the most authentic cuisines and enjoyed scrumptious food wherever we went. We were treated exceptionally well in certain places while we did not receive a warm reception in some. We were mesmerized by the natural beauty that our country is blessed with. However, we were also appalled by the way we were treated at times by certain people(government officials) at certain places. We got an insight into the village life and we were left humbled by the experience. We realized the true meaning of “Atithi Devo Bhava’” when we were treated as Gods in the heart of India. We had certain misconceptions and about some places which were put to dust when we went and lived in those places. We believe that the trip has made us much more independent. If we are asked to live in any place in India along with certain constraints, we can do it! We have become fearless. The trip has taught us how to be patient and it has also taught us how to calm ourselves in the gravest of situations. We have pushed ourselves beyond the limits that we thought we had. It’s simply amazing to see and realize how far we’ve come since we began.
