Who we are

The Shastrarth Socratic Society (SSS) is a student organization at IIT Gandhinagar that focuses on the important issues, events and trends of our time. We invite thought leaders from different walks of life from government to entrepreneurship, finance to the arts, science to spirituality to share their knowledge with the audience. Guests participate in a back and forth with the audience in the classic spirit of a Shastrarth or a Socratic dialogue.

Mission

SSS informs and educates the community including students, faculty and local residents about important issues, events and trends of our time in order to transform them into engaged citizens who act together to improve our future.

Vision

Life is about learning. Therefore, learning to learn is the most important human value and the most critical professional skill. We envisage SSS to emerge as a focal point of the broader community in the region and a beacon of independent inspiring thought in the nation. Our ambitions are to have global relevance but we recognize that Rome was not built in a day and are prepared to put in the daily sweat, blood and tears to create a great organization.

Some years ago, by the banks of the Sabarmati, a new idea was born. An unassuming man in a loincloth threw the gauntlet to the mightiest empire in history. We live in the shadow of greatness and owe it to both our past as well as future generations to set a higher standard to ourselves and the society we live in.

So, what do our sentiments translate into? We think that free, fair and fearless discussion is an essential part of a vibrant society and a healthy democracy. Therefore, we hark back to ancient traditions in both the Orient and the Occident. We envisage SSS to organize path breaking discussions and drive discourse itself. Our door is open to all philosophies, any perspective and diverse personalities.
