The Centre for Narmada river basin management (cNARMADA), initiated by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, aims to study the Condition Assessment and Management Plan (CAMP) for the Narmada River basin. The study is conducted jointly by IIT Gandhinagar and IIT Indore (consortium institutes) and the progress monitoring is by cGanga at IIT Kanpur. The main objective of the project is to develop an integrated river basin management plan for the restoration and conservation of the wholesomeness of the river by improving its ecological health substantially, which has been significantly affected by the competing human demands for river resource uses in the entire river basin. This entails the assessment of the existing conditions of the river and the preparation of a road map for comprehensive rejuvenation and conservation of the riverine ecosystems in their entirety by analyzing anthropogenic impacts on them in detail. The studies and management plan is to enable the rivers to perform its essential and desirable functions, concentrating on five pillars: Unpolluted River Flow (Nirmal Dhara), Continuous River Flow (Aviral Dhara), River Conservation Synchronized Development, Connecting people and River Science and Management.
