Analysis Of Human Values In Covid-19 On Digital Platform
What are Human Values?
Human values are the qualities that take into account the actions of a human being. The qualities such as love, integrity, selflessness, truth and mutual respect function as the core values of our lives. The qualities are significant to bring a positive outlook in human activities. The essential set of qualities help to shape social values and define the meaning of life. The paper analyses the aspects of human values in context to COVID-19 on digital platforms to understand how individuals have shaped their surrounding during the pandemic times. The paper also attempts to study the emergence and impact of worldwide writings on the subject of COVID-19.
COVID 19 Context to Human Values
COVID‐19 pandemic is a big challenge for humanity. The difficulties of curbing COVID – 19 and retaining human values largely depend on public behavior and participation. Here, we distinguish human values as especially significant in driving both, conduct consistent with government rules and elevating social practices to ease the strains emerging from a drawn-out pandemic. Individuals who understand the self- responsibilities are more likely to follow the rules & regulations, and apart, they come forward to take responsibilities of others.
Worldwide Writings on Covid-19
Jeffrey Brainard – Scientist are Drowning In Covid-19 papers. Can new tools keep them afloat? (1)
New media is flooded with thousands of articles on Covid-19. Kate Grabowski says that “People don’t have time to read through entire articles and figure out what is the value-added and the bottom line, and what are the limitations.” It is impossible to keep the pace with these massive publications, says Timothy Sheahan (1) .
This article of May 13, 2020, exhibits about 4000 scientific writings on Covid-19: by today, it could have reached tens of thousands. Who has time and interest to go through all these publications? Where are the mitigation methods to contain the Virus? Where are the actual researches to safeguard the Human Values? In the real sense, humans demand to restore their social and economic conditions through practical researches, and not only through publications.
Mark Paterson – Covid-19 response – where are the Social Scientist.(2)
This article refers to South Africa, the formation of the Government Ministerial Advisory Committee comprising of Minister of Health, Disaster Management, Home Affairs, Doctors, Medical Science Academics, Pathologists, and Researchers. The Lead Board of the Committee on the COVID- 19 reaction incorporates hardly any people with mastery about the more extensive cultural effects of the infection and the different authorization estimates taken to control it.
It is a good article covering the social aspects better understood by social scientists and economists as imposing lockdown restrictions on the general population, impacts socially and economically as people have lost their jobs, and with non-availability of labours, production has been severely affected, thereby directly impacting the GDP. Therefore, the role of social scientists and economists will be vital in deciding the social and economic aspects during the pandemic.
Tulasi Srinivas – India’s goddesses of contagion provide protection in the pandemic – just don’t make them angry. (3)
The author emphasizes the belief of God in Indian culture. The author experienced that the goddess act as celestial epidemiologist curing illness during epidemics. But if angered, they can also inflict diseases. That is, they are both poison and cure. Finally, the author says, “COVID-19 has undoubtedly increased the goddesses’ workload. And with no known cures and no viable vaccine, the contagion goddesses may well have their hands full for some time.” (3)
People of India are more religious than any other country. India’s social status is based on a strong belief in God and its existence. The curing of disease through a religious way is the question to be addressed by spiritual and religious scientists. But peoples need a solution to the virus, no matter how it comes. Where science fails, people start believing miracles. Anyhow, peoples want the results.
Anuraag Saxena – India Comes Together During Coronavirus Pandemic. (4)
Akshaya Patra Foundation – provided 30 Million meals with the help of 50 corporate houses and thousands of online donors. The Art of Living Foundation (Bengaluru) – has distributed sanitizer, infrared thermometers, masks, and other personal protectives things.(4)
Many more peoples have joined hands to serve humanity, thereby safeguarding Human Values. Indians have shown a great attitude in fighting the battle with the virus, whether it be a lockdown, use of sanitizers, and other personal protective equipment. They are constantly active on social media to spread awareness. And a lot of people have donated to a foundation like Akshaya Patra, which aims to counter classroom hunger and aid in the education of deprived.
Klaus Meyer, Carsten Lund, Thomas Ritter – The coronavirus crisis: A catalyst for entrepreneurship. (5)
The global lockdown and policies made have caused major disruptions to many businesses. So-called trends “Working from Home” has been the vital norm, while other personal meetings and conferences have replaced by video conferences and other forms of video communication. This pandemic has badly affected the international business.(5)
The pandemics situation has resulted in disruption of import-export business, particularly China being the production hub and initiator of the pandemics. All the imports of the goods from this country have come to a halt. Social media is strongly campaigning to ban Chinese products. To achieve this, we, in India, need to focus on researching and developing the products. Today India largely depends on Chinese products. To exemplify even dispenser used in sanitizer is not manufactured in India, and we depend on a Chinese product. The case of solar energy products is far beyond the reach.
The new media has always proved to be and particularly during this situation of the pandemic, to help the government & public at large in disseminating the data, rules, regulations & policies to bring out the best possible technology and mitigation methods to fight against the virus, and thereby safeguarding the human values and ultimately humanity.
