DEEPIKA KUMARI MEENA

On 16thMarch, as a part of industrial visit, we visited Uttarayan Art Foundation in Vadodara. The moment we entered there was in galore stone art everywhere. One was stuck by the beauty of such art and couldn’t imagen such things will be so beautiful. During when we were having our tea, Mr. Sudhir who was an artist himself and work in the same foundation, told us the about in brief about when and how the art gallery was established. First, we went to see the Tribal art where in which there were different tribal paintings of different states like Bihar’s Madhubani painting, Gujarat’s Pithora painting, Maharashtra’s Wali painting and many others and in each painting tells the different stories and shows different kind of art. Then there was this hut which was very beautiful and one can see the difference in temperature in and out of this hut. After that, we continue our journey in seeing the paintings where we saw the intricacies involved in making such art, stories and mythologies enmeshed in sculpture. Since no photography was allowed to take inside so we took many photographs outside and even we had a group photo. On our way to see Modern art, we saw different sculptures which were beautiful and attractive.

In the modern art gallery, we met an artist who was telling us the method in which a painting drawn in the wood and how it is transferred into the canvas. He also mentioned about how once transferred the painting into canvas, the wood is destroyed and the artist can make maximum up to ten paintings. Though the painting and the sculpture was very beautiful and attractive but it was very complicated to understand. On our way, we saw a beautiful preservation of nests of different birds from different countries and there was this hut made of raw red chillies which attracted our attention. So, while we were at the end of the modern art gallery pipeline, we saw a painting of a women which was lying on the bed with her face in agony and her daughter standing next to her which mesmerised our eyes and we were in awe. After we left modern art gallery, we went to the technical room where we were explained how the photos were put into the canvas.

At the end, we came out from the modern art gallery and there we saw a bridge made not of concrete but of iron rod and it was really surprising for us to see and feel the beauty of the bridge made by the unknown artist not know to us. Then after a while, my friend Akhil, Gyan and me sat near to the bridge and witness the sunset where the colours in the sky because of sunset mirrored in the water and it was beautiful and soothing and we felt at peace after watching such beauty of nature.

There were certain things which made me uneased like the location of Uttarayan Art Foundation. This was in a remote area and even the GPS failed to gives us the exact location. This becomes problem for those who want to pursue their art and visit to such place.

There was this question in my mind, what is the impact of such art into those people living in the vicinity and does this have any benefit to them whether in learning this art or not?
