Disclaimer:
The story describes an experiment performed by a student in the electrical lab and the joy and learning associated with it. I tried to personify the electrical lab and tried to convey the story using it as a person. There is no intention to target or offend any specific group of people through this personification, and any resemblance to any group or individuals is purely coincidental. It is the first time I am using the lab as a person; thus, many terms relate it to a human form and form relations. The words are not intended to hurt anyone and do not reflect the opinions or beliefs of any real-world entity. The use of siblings and relatives describes other such labs in different areas. The story’s depiction provides readers with the lab’s perspective and the experience related to the events that happen there. I took all the pictures; the story is my experiment. Please enjoy the story from the lab’s perspective and appreciate it as a creative expression.

Hello guys, let me introduce myself. I am the Electrical Lab at IIT Gandhinagar. I have many electrical machines and equipment inside me. Many people come everyday to conduct experiments, explore and learn. Every engineering college or any college or organisation that has an electrical department has a lab and my siblings or relatives would be present there. I have seen many generations of you as I will always be here with some modifications. Today, I am here to familiarise you with and get to know me and the stories I experience. I will also be eagerly waiting for you to play with me someday.

As mentioned by me, I have certain machines and equipment inside me that help the student and lab staff in their experiments. As you can see in the above picture, there are chairs, computers, DSO(Digital Signal Oscilloscope), DC power supply, function generator, breadboards, wires, cables, capacitors, resistors, and certain other things. The lights help the people to even work at night. However, for your safety, you must wear the lab attire and follow the lab protocols. I have different sections labelled for different electrical accessories. Let me guide you through some of the accessories and tools for you to understand me and my experiences better.

This is a section located at the entrance. The block here contains resistors, capacitors, rheostats, amplifiers, switches, speakers, etc. in different boxes as per their values and features. There are certain similar sections here for the designated things. Everything is labelled
and thus, it is easy for you to navigate and search for the required things.

This is a DSO, Digital Signal Oscilloscope. It is used to display various waveforms and helps in analysis and draw conclusions from the plot. It
has certain channels to display multiple waveforms. You have to connect the probe in the DSO to the points of the output. You can set the
position, scale of the waveforms and calculate the features such as frequency, average, amplitude, duty ratio, etc. of the waves. You can also save your waveforms in a pendrive. In a nutshell, this device displays all the information about the waveforms.

This is a function generator that helps to generate different functions used for our input such as sine wave, square wave, triangular
wave, etc.. There are two channels in this device and thus, you can take two different waveforms from here.

This a DC apply device, where you can provide a DC supply from 0-30 V, both positive and negative. Below the device, you can see a
three-phase AC supply. The supply rms value is 415 V and thus, there is a danger sign as it is a high voltage line and you have to be cautious
while using it. Although, all safety is ensured beforehand through MCBs and other things.

I offer students and lab staff the place and resources to perform their experiments. They explore, learn and develop many things and each experiment is associated with me as I am a part of all those experiments. There are certain failed experiments too, however, failures also teach them many things and motivate them to try out certain different things. Many inventions that you see today were someday a part of the experiment that was related to me or my siblings.

Today, 18th of March, 2023, a student came to me and he tried an experiment on building a toy organ to generate different frequencies. He was present here for almost two hours. He first researched the tools required for the experiment and the steps to perform those. I was carefully observing him and his curiosity to learn and explore makes me very happy. Many such people bring me happiness as they play with me and try out new things. He then collected all the necessary things from me and started doing the experiment. The above picture shows some connections done on the breadboard.

In the above picture, you can see the final circuit on the breadboard connected with a speaker. He was successfully able to complete the experiment and made a toy organ with eight different frequencies. He was highly excited to get the results and I am glad to be part of this story. He demonstrated the project to his friends and was very happy. Many such stories are associated with me and I am highly grateful to be a part of all those stories where I see successes, failures, motivation, hard work, repeated trials and new inventions.

This is me and my whole life experience consists of millions of such stories of experiments and trials over many years. I am still present here and eager to experience more stories. I hope one day you too come and make me a part of your story.
