The originality of the conference was that several senior scholars in the field commented on the young scholars’ presentations and offered further advice.

International Conference on Exploring the History of Indian Mathematics

This international conference at IIT Gandhinagar, jointly held with the Indian Society for the History of Mathematics, hosted some of the finest scholars in the field from India and overseas, and discussed India’s advances in ancient to twentieth-century Indian mathematics.

Workshop on Promoting History of Science in India

16–17 March 2013

This workshop presented an authentic picture of scientific advances in pre-modern India, especially in the fields of mathematics and astronomy. Leading scholars and over 50 delegates engaged in discussions on how to promote awareness of ancient India’s achievements in science.

Our Mission

The HoMI project explores the rich history of mathematics in India and the enormous contributions by scholars from Vedic to modern times. We promote both advanced research and the creation of authentic educational material at all levels, thus targeting both the scholarly world and the lay public.
