Semiotics, Digital Archiving, and Emerging Artists from India

Shivani Sharma – PhD Scholar (Humanities and Social Sciences)

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The artworks are creations of an artist named as Suguresh Sultanpur. Suguresh  hails from the city Raichur in Karnataka. He has completed his degree in Masters of Visual Arts from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara in 2010. He is currently pursing his passion as a painter in Vadodara.  The project display the art works of a contemporary artist on a digital platform with an aim to preserve and disseminate his creations and his profound artistic sense which his art embodies. These pieces have been chronologically catalogued, semiotically analysed, and serve the purpose of presenting a coherent narrative of the artist’s creative journey.  Sultan’s artistry is expressed in three-forms namely; pencil drawing, painting and 3D photography. This digital archiving by presenting these forms in separate sections allow a viewer to partake of each genre in isolation and also offers an opportunity to juxtapose these forms to look for an intermeshed genre narrative. In a nutshell, this digital archive aims to present an artist’s creation in a mediated manner. The result is an experimental aesthetic experience for the viewer who may seek the original aura in this mediated art form.
